Raspberry Suite Color Challenge #7

Edited: Please click on the photo to see it larger because for some reason blogger is publishing everything all washed out, but when you click to view the photo larger, the colors are more true to life. Anyone else having this problem?

Here is another version of the picture. It is better, but still washed out. What's up blogger?

Scroll down for more photos! :)
I am in love with this color challenge. Could these colors be any more gorgeous? And can you believe these flowers came from Dawn's garden?! Do you think she would let me live in her garden? ;)
Here is my card! I call it: using "stuff that I just bought from the recent Papertrey Ink release that I desperately wanted to use" card :).
This card is a little out of my element in that it's actually not cutesy! Amazing! I had so much fun making this card. I was having trouble getting inspired and this challenge helped!
The two flowers are cut using Kristina's spring flower designer cuts. I love her kits! I am sad she isn't making anymore for now. I used PTI's new text background basics and stamped it in raspberry fizz ink on rasp. fizz card stock for a tone on tone look. The button is a spring moss PTI button. I love how shiny it is! I used a pop dot in between the two flowers. I like all the dimension!
I used the text backgrounds on the ripe avocado piece on the bottom and clear heat embossed it. I seriously love this set! Way to go PTI! That ribbon was from my stash (most of which was given to me by my dear friend Jasmine), and it matches perfectly! How weird is that?! I had to use it!
The happy birthday sentiment is from the new PTI bird watching set. I really like the font in that set. I stamped it in raspberry fizz ink on the spring moss background.
That grand flourish is from another new PTI set (did I go crazy on this last release, or what?!). I stamped it in versamark as I don't have a spring moss ink pad. I wanted that tone on tone look again, and versamark did the trick! I like how it looks like it might be the flower's leaves.

So I am trying to be more "professional", and I am going to start adding my supplies at the bottom of my posts. This might be a bit difficult because I use a lot of "found objects", meaning I rip stuff off of presents that I get and re use it :). Hey, I am going green (and cheap!). How else can I afford to go crazy on PTI releases?! :) So, here is my first attempt!

Paper: PTI raspberry fizz, ripe avocado, & spring moss
Ink: PTI raspberry fizz; Versamark
Stamps: PTI Background Basics: text style; PTI Fancy Flourishes; PTI Bird Watching
Etc: Ranger clear embossing powder; PTI spring moss bottom; Kristina Werner's Spring Flowers Designer Cuts; random ribbon

i'm a mess

This title is figurative and literal. Exhibit A:
My husband took this picture. If you could only see the rest of the room. It is not a pretty sight!

I am a figurative mess because I can't seem to find a good way to manage my time between my new job and my crafting. Where does the time go? My days are disappearing! I also went back to my normal dose of heart medicine (they lowered it while I wasn't feeling well), and it made me feel w-e-i-r-d, like seriously weird. Hopefully my body will be more used to it tomorrow, because I don't want to feel funky all day again!

Alright, enough of that. Here is a great little video that I found via someone's twitter. I wish I could remember who twittered it. It is a great reminder to follow your dreams! I hope you enjoy it.

my brother lives in a bird house and loves desserts

Here is part two of my brother's bird house series :). jaja! :) I decided to use My Cute Stamps for his card because he loves desserts and Japanese art.

The paper is Me and My Big Ideas. I am liking using patterned paper. Especially since I have so much!
I faux stitched again. So fun! I am loving that look. I also added some glitter to the winking candy's eye with a copic spica pen.
Foam dimensionals: a girl's best friend :).
Here is his envelope. I LOVE this alphabet from Sassafras Lass. It is a woodgrain alphabet. So awesome! I also faux stitched along the edges of the envelope too.
Here is the final shot of his whole birthday gift. I really like how it all coordinates!

In a few weeks, my brother's first film, which he wrote and directed, will be premiering at the Cinevegas film festival, and then having its international premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival. How amazing is that?! I am going out to Vegas for the World Premiere. Cross your fingers that lots of important movie people see the film! :)

my brother lives in a bird house

I decided to get my brother a gift certificate for his birthday this year, so I knew I had to package it in a cool way. I had recently seen this post on Nichole Heady's blog which inspired me. See, my brother's house has an uncanny resemblance to her bird house! I always joke that it is the Swiss Family Robinson tree house. It really is the coolest house though, and my brother loves living there. So that is how I got started in making this:
I used her template on kraft card stock that I stamped with a woodgrain stamp. Then for the front I cut "slats" and inked the edges in chestnut chalk ink. I glued them overlapping each other. I then cut a piece out of those boxes that the PTI sets come in for the window. I think it turned out so cute!

For the roof I cut out a bunch of strips and punched them with my scallop edge punch. I inked those edges with the chestnut chalk ink and glued them to overlap each other also. My brother's roof really does look like this too!
I then glued down one side permanently with glue dots, but I only used removable adhesive for the other side. I love how it opens!

Here is a little mosaic of me putting the gift card in. I just love it! After my brother took out his present, he wanted me to adhere the other side of the roof permanently also so he could enjoy it all put together!
I don't usually make 3D objects because it tends to be a disaster for me, but I am really proud of how this turned out! My next entry will have his card and the whole gift all together.

PS. Do any of you know how to make a nice 4 x 4 grid like this in photoshop? Are there templates around for that kind of thing? I see people put together the best little mosaics, and I would love to learn how to do it! Thanks, guys! :)

PPS. I am laughing so hard because when I published it doesn't look like a 4x4 grid at all! jajaja! I definitely need help!

eat cake!

I finally got some time in my craft room this morning and a little bit this weekend. I can't wait to upload the pics and show you guys. I made the prettiest card for my parents' 30th wedding anniversary. I can't wait for them to get it!

June is coming up which means ... buh buh buuuuuh .... making guy cards. That's right it's Father's Day (and in my family everyone's birthday too). Guy cards are so difficult, mostly because I want to add glitter and flowers, and, well, that normally doesn't go over too well. So here is a very simple birthday card that I think any man would like!

The woodgrain stamp is a backgrounder from CHF. I put a piece of computer paper down with removable adhesive to create the woodgrain border. I then added white gel pen to define the frame. I absolutely love this cake and sentiment stamp from Kim Hughes. So fun! I think the "eat cake" sentiment is great for a guy too.

Here is a close up of the woodgrain. I love how it looks on kraft card stock. Alright, time for some rest. I seriously need more hours in the day! I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

yada yada yada

I have started making 4-bar sized cards. It is fun to have a smaller "canvas" to work with! Here is a one layer card that I made.
I love this frame! It is from a Basic Grey stamp set. Gorgeous! The "yada yada yada" is from Kitchen Sink Stamps. I love pairing that phrase with an ornate frame. I decided to post this card because I was watching Mythbusters, and they were doing an episode on double dipping. Of course that had me thinking about Seinfeld. Such a great show! I hope you all are having a wonderful Memorial Weekend!

Wordle is super fun! You can enter your blog and it creates a word collage based one which words you use most often! Here are some that I made. Go try it out. It's super fun! Let me know if you try it out! :)

I used my blog colors for the last one :)!

cutie pie owl says thanks!

I have been so busy! Life is slightly crazy right now, so I am still posting photos from cards I made a few weeks ago. I really hope to be back card making next week and hopefully doing a video! I still can't believe I missed entering Kristina's color challenge. It is the first one I have missed since I started. Boo to all my time being filled with work and doctor's visits!

Here is one of my cards from a few weeks ago. I love owls! :)
I used my beloved kraft card stock and scallop punch on this one. The button is PTI and the twine is Martha. The thanks stamp is from this really great Technique Tuesday thank you set. I really wish I could find a great happy birthday set like that. Do any of you have one?
The owl and branch are My Cute Stamps. I colored them in with copics. Who knows why I colored the owl blue! I do think it looks cute, though! Are there actual blue owls out there? :)

I used dimensionals again on the back of the owl image. I use so many of those. I wonder if I can buy stock in the companies that manufacture foam adhesive. :)

I ♥ Mike!

It's our 2 year wedding anniversary today! I can't believe how fast time has flown, or believe that we have been together for almost 10 years!
I am so lucky to have married my soul mate and love of my life! He is seriously the most wonderful man alive :). As you can tell, I love him so! I thought I would post some wedding pictures here on the blog as we spend the day together celebrating. I hope you like them!

100th post!

This is my 100th post! Woah!! How crazy is that? I'm sorry I have been so absent from the blog. I think this is the longest time between posts ever! Boo.
I have been doing alright. I spent all week doing extra work to make up for missing so much the weeks before. I haven't been in my craft room at all! I did finally clean it today. My husband helped me. It was seriously a disaster! I have been feeling just okay. I am seeing my main doctor tomorrow, and I hope I will get some insight. At least at this point I know it's not super dangerous, so I am just trying to keep on keeping on. :)

I did have the most wonderful pick me up this week though. One of my cards was picked to be "in the spotlight" for a color challenge! I am so excited and honored! I am letter "F" in the grid. Go to the link and check out the other cards. They are amazing!
So since I'm keeping on keeping on, here are some cards! They are two baby cards that I made. I had never made baby cards before, and they are so fun to make! I just might have to make more!
The giraffe is from my cute stamps. Love him! The sentiment is from a muse.
The giraffe was colored in with pencil crayons, and I added a little brad next to the sentiment that matches the giraffe.
I used patterned paper again! Woo! How cute is that pregnant woman stamp from a muse? So adorable!
The blue strip is what was left over after punching out a scallop. I wish I could remember where I got that tip, but it is a great one! Save those little strips that after left after punching out your scallop trim and use them for accents on other cards! So smart of that blogger to think of that!

I can't wait to start stamping again. I got the biggest ebay score ever on stamps. I am so excited! One of the reasons I am so excited is that I am going to have my first blog candy sometime soon!  I also totally got sucked in by the amazing stamp sets that Papertrey Ink came out with this month, so I am getting a lot of new goodies in! :)

Butterfly Birthday

Here is a birthday card that I made with a basic grey stamp set that I am in love with! I did that pearlescent technique with liquid pearls again. I used white embossing powder and even with the embossing buddy, it still wouldn't all come off. Anyone have any other techniques for getting a clean look with white embossing powder?

So my procedure went well. The doctor didn't see anything obviously wrong, but he took some biopsies of my stomach and intestines to see if there is something going on. He did this as a precaution, but he thinks that everything will come out negative. Of course this leaves a huge question ... what is wrong with me? I am still uncomfortable, but I think the pain is a bit better. I just keep hoping it will go away. I was able to get some work done today, which made me feel a little less guilty. Now I plan on taking it easy tonight and watching Dancing with the Stars, American Idol and House with the hubs. Speaking of my Mike, he has been amazing. He even stayed with me during the procedure when I was knocked out. He is a super man and the sweetest guy I know. I am definitely lucky to have him :).

I haven't been able to make my usual blog rounds, or comment back to people as I like to do, so I wanted to do a big group thank you here. You guys are so sweet and wonderful. Your comments have been little pick me ups during this scary time. It really does mean so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Raspberry Suite Color Challenge #5

So, tomorrow I am going in for a diagnostic procedure. I'll be put under that twilight anesthesia. Hopefully after that I will know more about what is wrong. I want to thank you guys so much for all of your well wishes. I can't tell you how much it means to me.

Even though I am really not feeling well, I decided to make a card for the challenge since making cards makes me happy! I kind of had a hard time with this one. I think it would have helped if I actually had dark grey card stock! Here is the challenge:
Here is my card:
I used raspberry fizz card stock, and I clear embossed polka dots from polka dot basics on to it.
I used my quickutz silhouette to cut out the hibiscus (medium pink) piece. I decided to use the negative of my thought bubble to try something different. I backed it with some white card stock and stamped my sentiment in the dark grey color.
Another cutie from my cute stamps! I decided to give this elephant raspberry fizz (bright pink) polka dots while outlining him in dark grey. Who wouldn't want to see a hot pink polka dotted elephant?! :)
I made a dark grey scalloped border for my medium pink piece by coloring white card stock with a copic marker.
I just had to use the sentiment "wish big" since there is an elephant there! I love how there are so many coordinating polka dots on this card: the open ones on the card base, the dots on the elephant, and even the dots on the way to the thought bubble!
